Community Days and the Employee Giving Campaign are McKesson’s largest employee volunteer and fundraising events of the year. This fall, we will demonstrate McKesson’s commitment to better health by volunteering and fundraising for the cancer patients we serve through our McKesson Foundation charity initiative, Giving Comfort.
A nonprofit program, Giving Comfort provides low-income cancer patients with free Comfort Kits — backpacks or totes packed with the comfort items they need to help them through treatment. The Kits contain a soft blanket and warm cap, fuzzy gripper socks for slick hospital floors and much more. Patients tell us that receiving a Comfort Kit “is a great joy” and “brings much-needed hope.”
Volunteer Community Days: Oct. 27 - Nov. 1, 2014
Community Days is a long-standing McKesson tradition when we come together to serve our communities at team events around the world. Here in the U.S., we will create 18,000 no-sew fleece scarves and 36,000 cards with notes of encouragement to fill Comfort Kits all provided free of charge to patients across the country.
Donate/Fundraise — Employee Giving Campaign: Sept. 22 - Nov. 7, 2014
Every day, thousands of Americans are diagnosed with cancer — many have difficulty meeting the cost of treatment and affording basic necessities. Our goal this year is to raise $250,000, and will have the option to fundraise or make a personal donation to help to reach it!
Donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of the funds we raise go directly toward providing Comfort Kits to cancer patients — not overhead. What’s more, McKesson Foundation Gift Matching doubles employee contributions of at least $10.
Why We Do It
This year, more than 1.6 million people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer. Hundreds of thousands of cancer patients struggle to pay for basic necessities. Too often, that leaves them unable to afford the comfort items that make treatment more bearable.
That’s why Giving Comfort exists — to provide high-quality comfort items to the patients who most need them, free of charge.
While the search for a cure continues, patients need comfort today. By choosing to volunteer, fundraise or donate during Community Days and the Employee Giving Campaign, you give comfort your way to cancer patients and assure them they are not alone in their struggle.
